WSDOT Feasibility Survey
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) (in cooperation with the Yakama Nation) is conducting a feasibility study to identify a non-motorized, pedestrian friendly pathway from Union Gap to Toppenish, and pass close to or within the City of Wapato. As such, it is intended to pass through the Wapato School District (WSD) between Union Gap and Toppenish. We are in the process of distributing project materials to other public agencies and non-profits in the study area. We believe that this feasibility study (for walkers, bicyclists, students, and non-motorized transportation safety), has interrelated goals with school districts in the study area and may benefit students who choose to walk to their local school. No route has been selected, and this feasibility study will help determine a route that best fits the communities needs and minimize impacts to the natural and build environments. After the feasibility is completed, we expect that funding and final designs of the pathway can be applied for to construct sections of the pathway.
