Health Services: All-Encompassing Care

The TSD Health Services department is the heartbeat of our school community! Our team of three registered nurses, two licensed practical nurses, and four support staff, offers a range of care options. Health Services is much more than Band-Aids and ice packs; our work helps maintain and improve students’ whole-body health.

At Health Services, you’ll find us hard at work in the following areas:

  • Early Detection: We provide early intervention through health screenings. Regular checks for vision, hearing, and dental health help us identify and address potential concerns before they impact a student’s academic journey.
  • Immunization Monitoring: We work with families to ensure students' immunizations are up-to-date or that they have a certificate of exemption on file.
  • Immediate Care: Our staff offers immediate first aid for injuries and manages acute illnesses when they occur during the school day.
  • Management and Support for Chronic Conditions: We support students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, severe allergies, seizures, and diabetes through medication management, the creation of individualized healthcare plans, and coordination with parents, teachers, and physicians.
  • Mental Health Support:  We believe mental well-being is just as vital as physical health, so we work closely with counselors throughout the district, as well as mental health professionals inside and outside of the Toppenish School District, to ensure our students' needs are met.
  • Promoting Healthy Habits:  We are passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and encourage our students to be physically active, practice good eating habits, and develop proper hygiene habits to stay with them throughout their lives.
  • Building Strong Partnerships:  Collaboration is at the heart of all we do. Health Services works closely with students, parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to ensure a seamless and effective approach to meet students’ health needs.

“Our health services program plays a critical role in safeguarding the well-being of the students, promoting healthy habits, and creating a healthy learning environment. By fostering a healthy learning environment and providing essential resources, we aim to empower TSD students to thrive academically,” shares Jessica Bjur, Executive Director of Health Services.
