Making Levy Dollars Go Further: Expanding Athletic Opportunities
Four years ago, Toppenish voters approved a $10 million capital levy for Toppenish School District to build a new gymnasium at Toppenish High School. The project funding included an additional $6 million in state matching funds for these much-needed improvements.
With careful planning and thoughtful decisions, TSD completed the gymnasium construction project under budget! To make sure TSD didn’t miss out on the state matching funds, TSD administrators and board members decided to use the state funds to make further improvements to our schools’ extracurricular facilities like those initially approved by voters.
So, instead of just a new gymnasium, Toppenish School District was able to fund a new field and bleachers for track, football, and soccer. Our Wildcat teams are already enjoying these improvements as they practice, compete, and build community in these spaces.
In addition to the new sports field, TSD was able to fund two new tennis courts that wrapped up construction this year. Rounding out the list of improvements, a multipurpose room was built for extracurricular activities and athletic training at the middle school and another at the high school. From clubs to special projects, these multipurpose rooms will help students’ ideas come to life and foster TSD’s spirit of learning and discovery.
Toppenish School District is grateful to the voters who made these facility improvements possible and to its project teams who helped make these projects a reality. We are diligent in our stewardship of taxpayer dollars and hope these efforts bring years of enjoyment and achievement to the district.
