    Superintendent's Message

    Toppenish Community!

It is truly an honor for me to introduce myself as the interim Superintendent of the Toppenish School District. My name is John Schieche and it is easiest to pronounce my last name as “She-he”.

I began my career in education many years ago as a Career and Technical Education teacher. In 1982, I became an administrator at Lake Washington Technical College in the Seattle area and served both high school and adult students for the next 10 years. In 1992, I became the Director at Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center serving Toppenish High School students and students from 12 other districts. In 2002, I became the Superintendent of the East Valley School District for the next 19 years and I retired in 2021.

Although retirement has some definite advantages, I have truly missed working with students, staff and community members. I am very excited about returning to work as your interim Superintendent over the next few months and the opportunity to work with our very talented educators in providing quality educational programs and opportunities for our students. Over the years, I have continued to be impressed with the innovative and diverse programs that Toppenish School District professionals have developed and implemented to meet the learning needs of all students.

I want to thank you for the opportunity work in the Toppenish School District as we strive to provide exceptional educational experiences for our students and community.
